Flush-mount M12 inductive sensor detects metal at 4 mm with NPN normally-open output, IP67 housing, and 2,000 Hz switching speed
The Sick IM12-04BNS-ZCK is a flush-mount cylindrical inductive sensor with an M12 x 1 thread and a 12 mm diameter. It operates on 10 to 30 V DC with an NPN normally-open output and a 4 mm sensing range. The housing is nickel-plated brass with a plastic sensing face and meets IP67 enclosure rating. A 4-pin M12 male connector provides the DC 3-wire connection.
Continuous load current is rated at 300 mA with a voltage drop of 1.5 V and current consumption of 10 mA. Switching frequency reaches 2,000 Hz and hysteresis ranges from 1 to 15 percent. The unit withstands shock at 30 g for 11 ms and vibration from 10 to 55 Hz at 1 mm amplitude. Operating temperature spans –25 °C to +75 °C and EMC compliance follows EN 60947-5-2.
Verify that the mounting location accepts an M12 x 1 thread with 35 mm thread length and 52.2 mm overall housing length. Confirm the control system can read an NPN normally-open signal from a 4-pin M12 connector. Ensure the supply stays within 10 to 30 V DC with ripple below 10 percent. Check that tightening torque does not exceed 7 Nm.

The sensor draws 10 mA with a 1.5 V drop, dissipating only milliwatts, and meets EN 60947-5-2 EMC limits, so heat and electrical noise are negligible in continuous operation.
You need a 4-pin M12 female cordset wired for DC 3-wire NPN loads, rated for 10–30 V DC and at least 300 mA continuous current.
Yes — the housing uses a standard M12×1 thread with 35 mm thread length and 52.2 mm overall length, matching the common flush-mount envelope used by legacy M12 inductive sensors.
