A cylindrical photoelectric retro-reflective sensor with M18×1 thread, 10–30 V DC supply, PNP dark-switching output, 0.05–3.7 m sensing range, and IP67-rated nickel-plated brass housing
The Sick VL18-3P3240 is a cylindrical photoelectric retro-reflective sensor with a PNP dark-switching output. It suits automation tasks that need a visible red LED beam and a metal M18 housing rated IP67.
The sensor detects objects from 0.05 m to 3.7 m, with a specified sensing range of 0.05 m to 3 m. The light spot reaches Ø 150 mm at 3 m and the beam disperses approximately 2.8°. Response time is 2 ms giving a 250 Hz switching frequency.
Verify your control system accepts a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply with PNP dark-switching logic and can connect to a 4-pin M12 male connector. Confirm the operating envelope of –25 °C to +70 °C and the 100 mA maximum output current meet the application requirements.

Use the 3 m figure for reliable detection with standard reflectors; the 3.7 m maximum applies only under ideal conditions with high-quality reflectors.
The sensor can change state up to 250 times per second, so it reliably detects objects spaced as close as 4 ms apart at line speed.
The M12 4-pin connector carries 10–30 V DC supply and the PNP dark-switching output up to 100 mA, limiting cable length to standard industrial runs.
