A through-beam photoelectric sensor detecting objects up to 20 m away with infrared light and a PNP dark-switching output
The Sick VS/VE18-3P3640 is a through-beam photoelectric sensor built for industrial automation tasks. Its cylindrical M18 housing suits machine mounting where axial optical alignment is required. The sensor delivers a maximum sensing range of 20 metres with an infrared LED source. It targets engineers needing reliable object detection across conveyors or access points.
Confirm your control system supplies between 10 and 30 volts DC with ripple below ten percent. The unit draws up to 30 milliamps and switches a PNP dark-switching output rated at 100 milliamps. A male M12 four-pin connector is required for wiring. The test input disables the sender when pulled to zero volts.
The PBT/PC housing weighs 200 grams and measures 78 millimetres in length. It meets enclosure rating IP67 for dust and temporary immersion protection. Protection class III insulation applies. Operating temperature spans from minus 25 to plus 70 degrees Celsius. The M12 connector ensures secure, vibration-resistant installation in harsh environments.

The sensor has a male M12 4-pin connector built in. The mating cable or connector is not included and must be sourced separately. Mounting nuts for the M18 x 1 thread are also sold separately.
Use the 14 m sensing range for reliable detection. The 20 m figure is the absolute maximum under ideal conditions; the 14 m range accounts for normal contamination and alignment tolerances.
The sensor can change state up to 250 times per second, so it can detect objects passing at intervals as short as 4 ms. This suits high-speed counting or positioning tasks.
