The Sick VTE18-3N8340 is a cylindrical photoelectric proximity sensor with an angled light emission designed for industrial automation. Its NPN dark-switching output and M12 4-pin connector suit PLC inputs and machine-control cabinets. The brass nickel-plated metal housing and IP67 enclosure rating allow installation in harsh environments. It operates reliably from –25 °C to +70 °C.

700 mm practical detection

The sensor detects objects from 10 mm up to 700 mm using an infrared LED with a 2.8° dispersion angle. A potentiometer provides manual adjustment of the switching threshold for different target reflectivity. Maximum specified range reaches 800 mm under ideal conditions, but reliable operation should be planned within the 700 mm rating. Response time is 2 ms for high-speed sorting or counting tasks.

10–30 V DC supply limits

The unit requires a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply with ripple below 10 % and draws no more than 30 mA. Voltage outside this window or excessive ripple will cause erratic switching or damage.
