Photoelectric proximity sensor with 3 mm to 90 mm sensing range, NPN output, and IP67-rated plastic housing
The Sick VTF18-3E1812 is a cylindrical photoelectric proximity sensor with an NPN switching output. It operates on a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply and draws a maximum of 30 mA. The housing measures 60.6 mm and carries an IP67 enclosure rating for dust and water protection. It is suited for automation tasks that require non-contact object detection.
The sensor detects objects from 3 mm to 90 mm, with a maximum range of 100 mm depending on target reflectivity. Infrared LED light emission and a potentiometer allow adjustment within this window. Response time is fixed at 2 ms, which sets the minimum interval between reliable switching events.
A 2 m PVC cable with 0.14 mm² conductors and 3.1 mm diameter provides the connection to the controller. The unit operates continuously from –25 °C to +70 °C, matching its storage temperature limits. This range covers most indoor and sheltered outdoor industrial environments without derating.
