Industrial sensing with NPN output

The Sick VTF18-4N5740 is a cylindrical photoelectric proximity sensor built for machine-mounting tasks that need a compact 78 mm housing. It detects objects from 0 mm to 45 mm using an infrared LED and provides a selectable light/dark switching NPN output. The IP67-rated plastic body operates from –25 °C to +70 °C on a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply.

Upgrade from basic limit switches

This sensor replaces mechanical limit switches or older diffuse sensors when non-contact detection and faster 2 ms response are required. The potentiometer adjustment lets you set the exact switching point up to the 50 mm maximum range without tools. The jump is worth it when dust, vibration or target colour changes make mechanical contacts unreliable.

Fits M12 wiring and 10–30 V DC rails

A 4-pin M12 male connector plugs directly into standard fieldbus cables, so no special loom is needed. The low 30 mA draw leaves headroom on shared 24 V DC rails. Selectable L/D control cable means one model covers both light-on and dark-on logic, reducing spare-part count. IP67 sealing handles wash-down environments without extra enclosures.
