MP70 OBD-II Y Cable for vehicle networking

The Sierra Wireless 6001204 cable splits a single OBD-II port into two connections for the MP70 gateway. It allows simultaneous diagnostic access and telematics logging without unplugging either device. Fleet installers use it to keep both the MP70 and a scan tool permanently attached.

Installers needing permanent dual access

Technicians who only need occasional diagnostic sessions can unplug the gateway temporarily instead. Vehicles without an OBD-II interface cannot use this cable. Shops that require galvanic isolation or signal buffering should select a different accessory.

Y-splitter topology for one OBD-II port

The cable provides two female OBD-II connectors from one male plug, letting the MP70 and a second device share the vehicle bus. First listed by the manufacturer in 2019 under part number 6001204. No active electronics or protocol conversion are included.

Questions about this item

How is the MP70 OBD-II Y Cable (6001204) installed in the vehicle?

The cable plugs directly into the vehicle OBD-II port and splits into two connectors for simultaneous device access. Ensure the latch clicks securely to avoid intermittent contact from vibration.

What maintenance does the MP70 OBD-II Y Cable (6001204) require over time?

Inspect the connector pins and cable jacket periodically for corrosion or abrasion damage. Replace the cable if the latch mechanism fails to hold firmly in the OBD-II port.

What is the first limitation encountered when the MP70 OBD-II Y Cable (6001204) is used continuously?

The primary limit is physical durability; sustained vibration and heat cycles can degrade the connector latch or cable insulation, leading to signal loss before any electrical rating is exceeded.
