The optical design uses 17 elements in 12 groups including five SLD and four aspherical elements. A ring-type ultrasonic motor provides fast, quiet autofocus with full-time manual override.

The constant f/1.8 aperture maintains exposure consistency throughout the zoom range from 18 mm to 35 mm. The Hyper Sonic Motor delivers reliable autofocus speed and accuracy during extended shooting sessions. Minimum focus distance remains 11 in across the range, while the angle of view shifts from 76.5 to 44.2 degrees. The lens accepts 72 mm filters via the front thread.

Check before ordering

Confirm your Canon body uses the EF mount and has an APS-C sensor, as this DC-series lens is designed for that format. Verify you can accommodate the physical dimensions of 3.1 x 3.1 x 4.8 in and the 72 mm filter diameter. Note that the lens lacks built-in image stabilization, so steady handheld technique or a stabilized body is required. The aperture stops down to f/22 at minimum.
