Wide-angle prime for Nikon F

The Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens mounts to Nikon F FX-format cameras and delivers a 42mm equivalent field of view on DX models. Its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and provides significant control over depth of field for subject isolation. The optical design incorporates two FLD and three SLD elements alongside three aspherical elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and increase sharpness. A Super Multi-Layer Coating suppresses ghosting and flare for improved contrast and color accuracy.

Thermals noise and power

This is a passive optical lens with no active cooling, so it generates no noise and draws no electrical power during operation. Performance in normal use is governed entirely by the camera body to which it is attached. The brass bayonet mount includes a dust and moisture seal to maintain reliability in varied shooting environments. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality without mechanical distraction.

Build integration and accessories

The lens integrates via the Nikon F mount and includes a lens hood, lens case, front and rear caps, a three-piece filter kit, a full cleaning kit and a lens cap keeper. Hyper Sonic Motor autofocus is quick and quiet with full-time manual focus override, freeing the photographer from switching focus modes. As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, it is designed for high optical performance. Buyers who need zoom versatility or a different focal length should consider other options.

Questions about this item

How do I mount the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens on my Nikon F camera, and what step do people often miss?

Align the brass bayonet mount with the camera's lens mount index, rotate until it clicks, and verify the dust/moisture seal seats evenly — the brass mount's rigidity can mask a partial lock if you don't feel the distinct click.

What maintenance or replacement will the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens need over time?

Clean the front element using the included full cleaning kit and replace the 3-piece filter kit's protective filter if scratched; the rounded nine-blade diaphragm and HSM motor are internal and not user-serviceable.

What limit appears first when shooting continuously with the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens at f/1.4?

The shallow depth of field at f/1.4 makes precise focus critical — any slight subject or camera movement becomes the practical limit before optical performance degrades.
