Wide-angle prime for Sony E-mount

The Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens is built for Sony E-mount cameras and delivers a 44.8 mm equivalent focal length. Its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture suits photographers who need shallow depth of field and strong low-light performance. The optical design uses two FLD, three SLD and three aspherical elements to control aberrations and distortion. It is aimed at enthusiasts and professionals pursuing artistic photography applications.

Optical coatings and weather sealing

A Super Multi-Layer Coating suppresses flare and ghosting while preserving contrast and colour fidelity in harsh lighting. The front element carries a water- and oil-repellent coating that eases cleaning. A dust- and splash-proof structure protects the barrel during challenging outdoor shooting. The nine-blade rounded diaphragm produces smooth out-of-focus highlights across the aperture range.

Brass mount and HSM autofocus

A high-precision brass bayonet mount offers durability and a secure fit on Sony E-mount bodies. The Hyper Sonic Motor drives fast, quiet autofocus with an updated algorithm for responsive subject tracking. The 77 mm filter thread accepts standard screw-in filters without vignetting. At 3.16 kg the lens is substantial, so users should verify their tripod head and bag capacity before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the brass bayonet mount or the water- and oil-repellent front coating need periodic servicing?

The brass mount is designed for rugged durability and the front element has a water- and oil-repellent coating; neither requires scheduled maintenance under normal use.

At f/1.4 what optical limit appears first during extended shooting?

The design uses two FLD, three SLD and three aspherical elements to thoroughly correct magnification chromatic aberration, sagittal coma flare and distortion even at the bright f/1.4 aperture.

How much heat or noise does the HSM autofocus motor generate during all-day use?

The Hyper Sonic Motor drives fast, quiet autofocus with an updated algorithm and the dust- and splash-proof structure handles challenging conditions without audible or thermal issues.
