A 50 mm f/1.4 prime for Nikon F-mount DSLRs with ultrasonic autofocus and 77 mm filter thread
The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens is built for Nikon F-mount FX-format cameras and also covers APS-C bodies with 75mm and 80mm equivalent focal lengths. Its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture suits photographers who need shallow depth of field and reliable indoor performance. The lens is not zoomable and focuses as close as .4 metres. Buyers who want a zoom range or a wider angle of view should look elsewhere.
One moulded glass aspherical element and three Special Low Dispersion elements correct axial chromatic aberration throughout the focusing range. Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting in normal lighting. The ring-type ultrasonic Hyper Sonic Motor delivers swift, quiet autofocus with full-time manual override. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces smooth background rendition at typical working apertures.
Thermally Stable Composite material and a brass bayonet mount maintain alignment when the lens is used for long periods. Focus calibration can be fine-tuned with the optional Sigma USB Dock. The fixed 50mm focal length and f/16 minimum aperture remain consistent regardless of session length.

Align the brass bayonet mount with the camera’s lens index, twist until it clicks, then remove the rear cap; the step many skip is calibrating autofocus using the optional Sigma USB Dock before critical work.
Clean the front and rear elements with a blower and microfibre cloth, keep the 77 mm filter thread protected when not in use, and re-run focus calibration via the USB Dock if autofocus accuracy drifts.
The shallow depth of field at f/1.4 makes precise focus placement the practical limit; focus breathing and motor heat are minimal, so missed focus shows up before any thermal or mechanical constraint.
