Ultra-wide zoom for APS-C

The Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM lens is engineered for Canon EF-mount APS-C DSLRs. It covers a versatile 12.8-25.6mm equivalent focal range, ideal for sweeping landscapes, tight interiors, architecture, and creative wide-angle shots. The bundle includes a backpack, memory card, and card reader.

APS-C image circle limits full-frame use

This lens projects an image circle designed specifically for APS-C sensors. On full-frame Canon EF bodies it will vignette heavily or require crop mode, reducing effective resolution. The variable f/4.5-5.6 maximum aperture also restricts low-light performance and shallow depth-of-field control compared to faster ultra-wide options.

8-16mm focal range decides fit

The 8-16mm zoom range delivers an expansive 12.8-25.6mm equivalent view that determines whether this lens suits your wide-angle needs. Buyers needing longer focal lengths for general walkaround or telephoto work should look elsewhere. The fixed hood and front element design also prevent standard filter attachment.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM lens or the bundle that adds a backpack, memory card and card reader?

The bundle includes the same 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM lens plus a backpack, memory card and card reader, so you get everything in one purchase.

What does the 12.8-25.6mm equivalent focal length mean when I mount this on my APS-C Canon DSLR?

On an APS-C body the 8-16mm zoom behaves like a 12.8-25.6mm lens on full frame, giving you an ultra-wide field of view for landscapes and interiors.

How does the Canon EF mount limit what I can do with this lens?

The EF mount fits Canon APS-C DSLRs directly; on mirrorless RF or EF-M bodies you would need a separate adapter, and the lens is not designed for full-frame sensors.
