Sirchie 1,2-Indanedione is a professional-grade powder supplied in a 1 g quantity for developing latent fingerprints on porous surfaces. It reacts with amino acid residues in a process comparable to DFO and ninhydrin. The developed prints fluoresce strongly under BLUEMAXX or equivalent alternate light sources. A factory-supplied formulation is included for mixing immediately before use.

Suitable for crime scene and lab examiners

This reagent suits forensic investigators who need an affordable DFO alternative and have access to blue-light forensic illumination. It is not intended for use on poor-quality papers such as newsprint, cardboard or recycled writing stock. Examiners without a suitable alternate light source cannot visualise the fluorescence. Once mixed, the working solution has a limited shelf life, so it does not suit infrequent users who require a ready-to-use stable liquid.
