USB Wi-Fi Adapter with Bluetooth 4.2

This USB adapter adds dual-band wireless and Bluetooth 4.2 to a desktop or laptop. It uses the RTL8822BU chipset and supports 802.11 ac/b/g/n standards on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. The compact blue dongle includes a built-in 2dBi antenna for cable-free connectivity.

Driver CD and hotspot capability

A driver CD and installation guide are bundled so the adapter can be set up on Windows 2000 through Windows 10 or Mac OS without an existing internet connection. The hardware also lets the host computer create a Wi-Fi hotspot for sharing its wired link with other devices. Bluetooth driver support is limited to Windows 7 and later.

Suitable for adding wireless to legacy PCs

This suits owners of older desktops or laptops that lack built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and run Windows 7 or newer. Buyers needing Bluetooth on Windows XP, Vista or Mac should look elsewhere because the Bluetooth stack is unsupported on those platforms. Users requiring faster than 1300 Mbps wireless throughput will not be satisfied.

Questions about this item

Will the 2 dBi antenna need replacing to maintain 867 Mbps on the 5.8 GHz band?

The built-in 2 dBi antenna is fixed and not user-replaceable; performance at 867 Mbps depends on placement and interference rather than antenna wear.

Does the RTL8822BU chipset throttle speed when running at the 45 °C operating limit?

The adapter is rated for continuous operation up to 45 °C; no thermal-throttling behaviour is specified for the RTL8822BU chipset within that range.

How much heat and noise does the USB Wi-Fi adapter produce during all-day use?

The device has no fan and draws power only from the USB port, so it runs silently and generates minimal heat even under sustained load.
