What this product is

The SMUGDESK 2x2 HDMI 2.0b matrix switcher routes two HDMI sources to two displays independently. It delivers 4K@60Hz video with HDR and 3D support at 18.5Gbps bandwidth. An integrated audio extractor provides separate optical SPDIF and 3.5mm analog stereo outputs for external sound systems. HDCP 2.2 compliance ensures protected content plays correctly. Control is via front-panel buttons or the included IR remote.

What to check before ordering

Verify that each source device and each display uses a standard HDMI connection and can operate at the resolution you need. Confirm your audio equipment accepts either optical SPDIF or 3.5mm analog stereo input for the extracted signal. Ensure you have a free power outlet for the supplied adapter. The unit handles auto scaling so outputs can run at different native resolutions such as 4K and 1080p simultaneously.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Ideal for home theatre owners, gamers, or office users who need to share two sources across two screens with independent audio extraction. Buyers who require more than two inputs or more than two outputs should look elsewhere. Anyone needing HDMI 2.1 features such as higher refresh rates or variable refresh rate will not find them here. Users without optical or analog audio inputs on their sound system cannot use the extractor.

Questions about this item

Does the box include the IR remote and cables, or must I buy them separately?

The unit ships with an IR remote control for one-touch switching; HDMI cables for the two inputs and two outputs are not included and must be purchased separately.

How do I decide between using the optical SPDIF output and the 3.5 mm L/R analog output for my sound system?

Use optical SPDIF for a digital connection to a sound bar or AV receiver; use the 3.5 mm L/R jacks for analog stereo amplifiers or headphones — both deliver the same extracted audio simultaneously.

What does the 18.5 Gbps bandwidth mean when I connect a 4K 60 Hz source to one output and a 1080p display to the other?

The 18.5 Gbps link carries full 4K 60 Hz RGB 8:8:8 to the first display while the built-in auto-scaler independently downscales the second output to 1080p without reducing the source signal quality.
