Internal Y-cable splits one 9-pin HDAudio header into two front-panel audio ports with locking connectors
This SMUGDESK Y-splitter converts one motherboard 9pin HDAUDIO male header into two female ports so a case with dual front-panel audio modules can connect both simultaneously. It follows the standard HDAudio pin assignment to carry microphone input and headphone output signals without driver installation. A built-in locking clip on the male plug secures the connection against vibration or movement inside the chassis. The cable is designed for internal wiring during PC builds, case swaps or hardware modifications.
It solves the mismatch when a motherboard provides only a single HDAUDIO header but the chassis front panel includes two separate audio harnesses. The upgrade is worth it when rebuilding into a case that offers dual headphone and microphone jacks or when adding a second front-panel audio module to an existing system. It cannot function with older AC97 headers because the pin layout differs, so boards limited to that legacy interface remain incompatible.
The splitter comfortably handles two standard front-panel audio harnesses carrying analog stereo output and mono microphone input. It runs out when the motherboard header itself lacks sufficient drive current for both connected modules simultaneously or when the case wiring uses a non-standard pinout that deviates from the HDAudio specification.

The male plug has a built-in retention clip that clicks onto a standard 9-pin HDAudio header, holding it firmly against chassis vibration.
After plugging the male end into the motherboard header, both front-panel harnesses must be seated fully into the two female ports; a loose harness causes static or cut-out.
If audio drops out or crackles only when the case is moved, the locking clip or internal contacts have worn and the cable should be swapped.
