Wired Gigabit Adapter for USB 3.0 Devices

This USB 3.0 to RJ45 dongle adds a full-rate Gigabit Ethernet port to laptops, desktops and the Nintendo Switch. It uses the ASIX AX88179 controller and requires no driver installation on Windows, macOS or the Switch. The aluminum housing dissipates heat during long sessions.

Sustained Throughput with Aluminum Cooling

The solid alloy shell acts as a heatsink, keeping the AX88179 controller cool during continuous 1000Mbps transfers. This prevents thermal throttling that can drop speeds on plastic-bodied adapters during large-file moves or extended gaming. Backward compatibility with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports ensures a link at reduced rates when a 3.0 port is unavailable.

Driver-Free Setup With Diagnostic LEDs

Plug the adapter into any USB-A socket and connect a CAT5e or CAT6 cable; the link activates immediately on supported systems. Integrated LEDs show link status and traffic activity for quick verification. Buyers who need multi-gigabit speeds beyond 1000Mbps or a USB-C native connector without an adapter will not be served by this model.

Questions about this item

Does the aluminum case keep the adapter cool during continuous gigabit use?

The aluminum housing is designed for heat dissipation so the AX88179 chipset can sustain 10/100/1000Mbps throughput during long sessions.

My laptop only has USB 2.0 ports — will the adapter still provide a wired link?

Yes, the USB 3.0 interface is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1, so the adapter works on older ports at their supported speeds.

Will this dongle wake my older desktop via Wake-on-LAN through the USB 3.0 port?

The adapter supports Wake-on-LAN and IEEE 802.3x flow control, so it can wake compatible systems when connected to a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port.
