OCuLink SFF-8611 to SFF-8087 active cable
This 50 cm active cable connects an OCuLink SFF-8611 4i host port to a 36-pin SFF-8087 backplane or controller. Built-in signal conditioning supports PCIe Gen3 and Gen4 links at up to 12 Gbps. Gold-plated contacts and latch-lock connectors reduce signal loss and resist vibration in dense chassis.
Replaces passive copper links at 12 Gbps
Passive cables often fail to maintain signal integrity at 12 Gbps over internal routing distances. The active design compensates attenuation so Gen3 and Gen4 storage traffic remains stable. The upgrade is worth it when vibration, tight bends or longer runs cause link errors or dropped drives with passive assemblies.
Suits server and workstation backplane builds
System integrators wiring slimline SSD arrays or SAS backplanes inside Supermicro, ASUS or Gigabyte platforms will find the latch-lock ends and flexible jacket practical. Buyers who need external Mini-SAS HD, U.2 or M.2 direct connections should look at a different cable family.

Questions about this item
What clearance does the 50cm active cable need for the latch-lock SFF-8611 4i and SFF-8087 36Pin connectors?
The latch-lock SFF-8611 4i and SFF-8087 36Pin connectors require enough depth for the locking latches to engage fully; the 50cm flexible jacket allows tight bends but keep the latch area clear of chassis walls or drive cages.
How is the active cable installed and what step is often missed?
Insert the SFF-8611 4i end into the OCuLink host port and the SFF-8087 36Pin end into the backplane until both latch locks click; the step often missed is verifying both latches are fully seated, not just the plug body.
When should the active cable be replaced in a SAS backplane setup?
Replace the cable if latch locks no longer click securely, if the jacket shows kinks that affect the active signal conditioning, or if intermittent link errors appear on the SAS backplane under sustained 12Gbps loads.
