What it is

The SMUGDESK SI-MPE24073 is a Mini PCI-E 2.5G Ethernet controller card for desktop PCs. It installs directly into a Mini PCI Express slot to add a wired RJ45 network port. The adapter auto-negotiates speeds of 10, 100, 1000 and 2500 Mbps. It is designed for internal network upgrades or port replacement.

Who it suits

Builders adding a high-speed wired link to a desktop with a free Mini PCI-E slot will find it fits. Users needing Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or fibre connectivity cannot use this card. It also does not fit M.2 or full-size PCI-E slots. Buyers without a compatible Mini PCI-E header should look at other interface types.

Deciding spec

The single specification that decides fit is the Mini PCI-E 2.5G interface with RJ45 port. Your motherboard must provide a Mini PCI Express slot and the system must run a supported Windows version. The card delivers up to 2500 Mbps throughput over standard Cat5e or Cat6 copper cabling.
