USB4 cable for Thunderbolt 4 devices

This 3.3 ft USB4 cable delivers up to 240W of power and 40Gbps data transfer for Thunderbolt 4 compatible hardware. It supports 8K video at 60Hz or dual 4K displays using two cables. The connector fits USB-C ports on laptops, tablets, external SSDs, eGPU enclosures and docking stations.

Practical limits of the USB4 interface

Maximum performance requires both host and peripheral to support 40Gbps and 240W (48V/5A). Video output depends on the host GPU and display capabilities; the cable itself does not upscale resolution. Backwards compatibility covers Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0, but speeds and power drop to the lowest common standard.

Installation notes and common issues

Plug the USB-C connectors into both devices; no drivers are required. The most frequent issue is using a port that lacks Thunderbolt 4 or full USB4 support, which caps data at lower rates and prevents 240W charging. Ensure the power source and sink both negotiate 48V/5A for maximum wattage.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1.5 ft or 3.3 ft length for my desk setup?

What does the 40 Gbps rating deliver when I plug in an external SSD?

You can move large video files at up to 40 Gbps provided the drive and host both support that speed.

How does the Thunderbolt 4 compatibility limit charging and video output?

It caps power at 240 W (48 V / 5 A) and video at 8K 60 Hz or dual 4K displays.
