USB4 cable for high-power devices

This USB4 cable carries up to 240 watts of power at 48 volts and 5 amps. It suits users who charge laptops, phones and accessories from a single USB-C source. The cable also supports Thunderbolt 3 and 4 hosts for docks and external GPUs.

Bandwidth drops with older ports

Rated throughput is 40 gigabits per second on a USB4 Gen3 connection. On a USB 3.2 Gen2 port the same cable is limited to 20 gigabits per second. Video and data speeds therefore depend on the host controller you plug into.

240 W power delivery decides suitability

The single specification that determines fit is the 240 watt power rating. If your charger and device both support 240 W PD 3.1 this cable will deliver the full rate; otherwise charging falls back to the lowest common limit.

Up to 40 Gbps with USB4 Gen3 ports — enough to move 14 hours of HD video or 25,000 photos in about a minute; drops to 20 Gbps on Gen2 ports.

How does the USB4 interface limit charging and video in practice?

The cable carries up to 240 W (48 V / 5 A) with PD 3.1 and QC 4.0 chargers, and drives a single 8K display at 60 Hz or dual 4K at 60 Hz over Thunderbolt 3 or 4 ports.
