What this cable does

This USB4 cable connects Thunderbolt 3 and 4 hosts and devices and remains backward compatible with USB-C 3.2, 3.1 and 2.0 equipment. It carries data, video and power in a single male-to-male link for MacBook Pro, iMac, Windows laptops, docking stations and high-speed storage.

Practical limits of USB4 and Thunderbolt

The cable reaches a theoretical 40 Gbps data rate with real-world reads up to 2.8 GB/s and writes up to 2.1 GB/s. It drives one 8K or 5K display at 60 Hz or two 4K displays at 60 Hz, provided the USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode. Length is 3.3 feet.

The spec that decides fit

Power delivery tops out at 240 W (48 V / 5 A) via E-Mark, far above earlier 60 W and 100 W cables, so it can charge phones, accessories and gaming laptops alike. Buyers whose devices or chargers do not support USB Power Delivery above 100 W will not see the higher rate.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 3.3-foot length or a longer cable for my setup?

The 3.3-foot length keeps signal integrity at the full 40Gbps and 240W rating; longer passive cables often drop to lower speeds or power limits.

What does the 40Gbps rating actually deliver when I copy large files?

Real-world reads reach 2.8GB/s and writes reach 2.1GB/s, so a 2.5GB file moves in roughly one second.

How does the Thunderbolt 4 interface cap charging and video in practice?

Thunderbolt 4 caps power at 240W (48V/5A) and video at one 8K@60Hz or dual 4K@60Hz displays.
