61MP full-frame mirrorless camera

The Sony a7R V pairs a 61MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor with the BIONZ XR processor and a dedicated AI processing unit. This combination delivers 15-stop dynamic range, native ISO 100-32000 expandable to ISO 50-102400, and 14-bit high-resolution stills. The AI-based real-time tracking AF system recognises a wide range of subjects for reliable focus acquisition in demanding shooting scenarios.

8K 24p and 4K 60p 10-bit video

Internal recording tops out at 8K 24p and 4K 60p in 10-bit 4:2:2, while 4K 16-bit raw output is available via HDMI to an external recorder. The electronic viewfinder provides a 9.44m-dot panel with a selectable 120 fps refresh rate for smooth composition. Full HD 120p capture enables slow-motion work, and S-Log3 plus S-Cinetone profiles support colour grading pipelines.

64GB UHS-I card suits stills.

The bundled SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB card reads at 200 MB/s and handles extended bursts of 61MP stills and 4K 60p footage. Extended 8K sessions or continuous 4K 16-bit raw recording will exceed its capacity and sustained write performance, requiring additional high-capacity UHS-II or CFexpress Type A cards. The included bag, reader, blower, cloth and cleaning kit cover basic protection and workflow needs for field use.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the body-only camera with the 64 GB card or add a larger card for 8K video?

The bundle includes a 64 GB SanDisk Extreme PRO card rated at 200 MB/s; 8K 24p and 4K 60p 10-bit recording will fill it quickly, so a second high-capacity card is practical for long shoots.

What does the 61 MP sensor resolution mean for everyday shooting?

The 61 MP full-frame Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor delivers 14-bit stills with a 15-stop dynamic range and native ISO 100-32000, giving high-detail images and cropping latitude for landscape, studio or wildlife work.

How does the EVF specification affect framing fast action?

The 9.44m-dot electronic viewfinder runs at up to 120 fps refresh, providing a smooth, high-resolution view that tracks rapid subject movement with minimal lag.
