Camera and lens kit

The Sony Alpha a6100 mirrorless camera ships with a 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 power zoom lens, a 64GB SDXC card and a shoulder bag. It is aimed at photographers moving up from a phone or compact who want interchangeable lenses and a larger APS-C sensor in a lightweight body.

24.2MP APS-C sensor and autofocus

The 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor offers a native ISO range of 100-32000, expandable to 51200 for low-light work. Its 425 phase-detection points deliver 20-millisecond AF acquisition with real-time eye tracking for people and animals. Continuous shooting reaches 11fps with AF/AE tracking, while the buffer and card write speed eventually limit extended bursts.

Upgrade from fixed-lens cameras

This kit replaces a high-end compact or smartphone for users who need lens flexibility, faster autofocus and 4K 30p video in XAVC S format. The jump is worthwhile when you want shallow depth of field, eye-detection AF and the ability to add telephoto or macro lenses later. It does not suit buyers who need dual card slots, in-body stabilisation or a headphone jack for audio monitoring.

Questions about this item

Will the a6100 and 16-50mm lens work with my existing Sony E-mount lenses and accessories?

The camera uses the Sony E-mount, so your current E-mount lenses, batteries and Micro-USB cables all fit and function normally.

How can I verify the 24.2MP sensor and 425 phase-detection AF points are performing correctly?

Shoot a test burst at 11fps with AF/AE tracking enabled; sharp focus across the frame and clean 24.2MP detail confirm the sensor and AF system are working.

Does the bundle include a battery, charger and the 64GB card, or must I buy them separately?

The box contains the a6100 body, 16-50mm lens, rechargeable battery, AC adapter for in-camera charging, strap, body cap, eyepiece, Micro-USB cable, 64GB SDXC card and shoulder bag.
