Compact mirrorless for everyday creators

The Sony Alpha a6400 pairs a 24.2MP APS-C sensor with an E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II lens in a lightweight body. Its Fast Hybrid AF locks on in 0.02 sec using 425 phase-detection and 425 contrast-detection points covering 84% of the frame. Continuous shooting reaches 11fps with full AF/AE tracking for fast-moving subjects.

Suits travel and vlog shooters needing speed

Buyers who want a pocketable camera with reliable eye detection and quick burst rates will benefit from the wide AF coverage and 11fps drive. Those who require dual card slots, in-body stabilisation or a larger buffer for extended RAW sequences should look at other models.

Sustained bursts rely on buffer management

At 11fps the camera maintains AF/AE tracking across each frame while the processor handles 24.2MP data. Real-time Eye AF continues to track faces during long sequences, though write speeds will eventually throttle the burst once the internal buffer fills. The 16-50mm power zoom operates quietly for video work.

Questions about this item

What SD card do I need for 4K video and 11 fps bursts on the a6400?

The a6400 records 4K and shoots 11 fps to any SD, SDHC or SDXC card; faster UHS-I or UHS-II cards clear the buffer sooner.

Will my older E-mount lenses cover the a6400 sensor?

Every E-mount lens works on the a6400; APS-C lenses use the full 24.2 MP area while full-frame lenses crop automatically to APS-C.

How can I confirm the 0.02 s AF and 425-point coverage are active?

The focus-area display shows all 425 points lighting across 84 % of the frame, and Real-time Eye AF locks in roughly 0.02 s when enabled.
