Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS camera lens with filter and accessory kit

Compact zoom lens for travel

The Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS is a retractable power zoom lens designed for Sony E-mount cameras. It covers a 16 to 50 mm focal range, making it suitable for everyday photography and travel. The lens collapses to a very short length, allowing it to fit easily in a small bag or jacket pocket. It is aimed at photographers who prioritise portability and a lightweight kit.

Simple attachment with filter care

The lens mounts directly to any compatible Sony E-mount body without adapters or additional configuration. Its retracting mechanism extends automatically when the camera is powered on and retracts when powered off. The front element does not rotate during focusing, which simplifies the use of the included circular polariser or neutral density filters. Users should ensure the lens is fully extended before shooting, as the camera may prevent shutter release while retracted.

Variable aperture limits low-light use

The maximum aperture shifts from f/3.5 at the wide end to f/5.6 at 50 mm, reducing the light available for indoor or evening scenes. This variable aperture design is a constraint of the compact optical formula and cannot be overridden. Photographers needing consistent exposure throughout the zoom range or shallow depth of field at longer focal lengths will find this lens restrictive. Optical SteadyShot helps stabilise handheld shots, but does not compensate for the reduced aperture at full zoom.
