Cinematic soundbar for home viewers

The Sony HTB500 BRAVIA Theater Bar 5 is a 3.1 channel soundbar designed for living-room cinema sound. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X to create overhead and surround effects without extra speakers. Bluetooth streaming lets you play music from a phone or tablet wirelessly. The BRAVIA Connect app handles setup, control and software updates from a smartphone.

Buyers wanting clear dialogue and easy streaming

The dedicated center channel keeps voices distinct across movies and TV shows. Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force Pro Front Surround widen the soundfield using only the front bar. DSEE restores detail lost in compressed music files for richer playback. Households that want rear speakers or a separate subwoofer will need a different system.

3.1 channel configuration decides fit

A 3.1 layout means left, right and center drivers plus a built-in subwoofer for bass. This fixes the soundstage width and low-frequency reach in one unit. If your room needs discrete surround channels or more bass impact, this configuration will not meet that need. The 500 model number identifies this specific bar in the range.

Questions about this item

Does the 3.1 channel soundbar run hot or draw much power during all-day use?

The soundbar uses a 3.1 channel design with a dedicated centre speaker and Vertical Surround Engine to create immersive audio without up-firing drivers, which helps keep heat and power draw moderate during extended sessions.

What must I already own to stream music wirelessly to this soundbar?

A smartphone or other device with Bluetooth is all that is required to stream music wirelessly to the soundbar.

Will the BRAVIA Connect app work with my older non-BRAVIA television?

The BRAVIA Connect app provides guided setup, sound-mode control and software updates from a smartphone, so it functions independently of the TV brand.
