Versatile 50mm focal length

The Sony SEL50F18/B is a prime lens with a 50mm focal length and a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture. It suits photographers who want a compact, lightweight option for everyday shooting on Sony E-mount cameras. Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation helps reduce blur when working handheld in lower light.

Bright aperture and stabilisation for sustained use

The f/1.8 aperture gathers ample light, allowing faster shutter speeds or lower ISO settings during extended sessions. Optical SteadyShot continues to counteract camera shake over long periods of handheld shooting. ED glass elements contribute to consistent sharpness and colour rendition throughout a day of capture.

Check E-mount compatibility before ordering

This lens is designed for Sony Alpha cameras with an E-mount and is also compatible with Handycam NEX-VG10 and NXCAM NEX-EA50 models. Verify that your camera body uses the E-mount system. Buyers needing a zoom range or a different focal length should consider other options.

Questions about this item

Does the SEL50F18/B get hot or draw extra power during long shooting sessions?

The lens is passive optical glass with built-in Optical SteadyShot stabilization; it generates no heat and draws negligible power from the camera body.

What camera mount must I already own for this lens to attach and function?

You need a Sony E-mount body such as the Alpha series, Handycam NEX-VG10 or NXCAM NEX-EA50 for full electronic communication and stabilization.

Will the 50 mm f/1.8 work properly on my older A-mount Sony DSLR with an adapter?

The lens is designed for native E-mount; on A-mount bodies it requires an adapter that may limit autofocus speed and disable Optical SteadyShot.
