85 mm f/1.4 G Master portrait lens

This Sony E-mount prime lens delivers extremely high resolution with softly dissolving background bokeh for portrait and event photographers. Its fixed 85 mm focal length and bright f/1.4 aperture provide shallow depth of field and strong low-light performance.

77 mm filter thread and 0.12× magnification limit

The lens accepts 77 mm front filters and offers a maximum magnification of 0.12×, which restricts close-up detail work. Builders needing higher reproduction ratios or a different filter diameter should consider alternative optics.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 85 mm f/1.4 or a different focal length for portrait work?

The 85 mm focal length with a fast f/1.4 aperture is a classic portrait choice that gives a flattering perspective and strong subject separation on full-frame E-mount cameras.

How does the f/1.4 aperture perform when shooting wide open in low light?

At f/1.4 the lens gathers significantly more light than slower primes, letting you keep ISO lower indoors or at dusk while still delivering the high resolution the G Master line is built for.
