Sony SNC-DH140 1.3 Megapixel Minidome

The Sony SNC-DH140 is a 1.3 megapixel network minidome camera designed for indoor security monitoring. It captures HD resolution at 1280 x 720 pixels running at 30 fps. The unit includes View-DR technology and a visibility enhancer for improved image quality in challenging lighting conditions. This camera suits homeowners or small businesses seeking a compact, fixed surveillance solution.

Check PoE switch or separate power supply

Verify that your network infrastructure can provide Power over Ethernet to the camera, or confirm availability of a 12 VDC or 24 VAC power source. Ensure your recording system or video management software supports ONVIF Profile S for interoperability. The varifocal lens covers 3.1 to 8.9mm, so plan the mounting distance to match the required field of view. An analog monitor output is available for local setup and focus adjustment.

Replaces older analog dome cameras

This model upgrades installations still using standard-definition analog domes by delivering 720p HD video over IP with dual H.264 and JPEG streaming. The jump is worthwhile when you need remote network access, PoE cabling simplicity, and day/night operation with an IR cut filter. It is not for buyers who require higher than 1.3 megapixel resolution, motorised pan-tilt-zoom movement, or built-in infrared illumination for zero-light scenes.

Questions about this item

Does the camera ship with a power supply or do I need a PoE switch or separate 12 VDC / 24 VAC adapter?

The unit supports PoE, 24 VAC and 12 VDC but no power supply is included; you must provide a PoE switch or a compatible 12 VDC / 24 VAC adapter.

Should I choose the 1.3 megapixel model or a lower-resolution alternative for general monitoring?

The 1.3 megapixel sensor delivers 1280 x 720 at 30 fps, which is the highest resolution this minidome offers; there is no lower-resolution version in this range.

What does the 3.1 to 8.9 mm varifocal lens mean for the actual field of view once mounted?

The varifocal lens lets you adjust the focal length between 3.1 mm and 8.9 mm after installation, so you can narrow or widen the view to suit the mounting position.
