Sony SNC-XM636 outdoor minidome camera

The Sony SNC-XM636 is a new outdoor minidome IP security camera that captures 1080p video at 30 fps. It uses a 1/2.9-type progressive scan Exmor CMOS sensor with approximately 2.14 megapixels. This unit suits installers who need a compact dome form factor for exterior monitoring.

Sustained operation with View-DR and auto gain

Under continuous use the camera maintains exposure through automatic gain control and a shutter range of 1/1 s to 1/10,000 s. View-DR technology delivers dynamic range equivalent to 90 dB, preserving detail in high-contrast scenes. Minimum illumination reaches 0.3 lx at 50 IRE and 0.18 lx at 30 IRE in both colour and monochrome modes at F2.2.

Replaces older fixed domes lacking wide dynamic

The SNC-XM636 upgrades installations that rely on conventional fixed domes without View-DR or equivalent 90 dB dynamic range. The jump is worthwhile when scenes contain strong backlight or deep shadows that earlier cameras render as blown highlights or crushed blacks. It is not for buyers who need higher than 1080p resolution or frame rates above 30 fps.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the SNC-XM636 generate when recording 1080p at 30 fps continuously?

The camera uses a 1/2.9-type Exmor CMOS sensor and runs at 30 fps; with no moving parts and passive cooling, it produces negligible heat and no audible noise during all-day operation.

What cabling and power source must I already have to install this minidome?

You need a single Ethernet cable for PoE power and data, plus a compatible PoE switch or injector; no separate power supply is required.

Will the SNC-XM636 integrate with my existing ONVIF recorder that only supports Profile S?

Yes, the camera supports ONVIF Profile S, so it will stream 1080p 30 fps video to any recorder or VMS that implements that profile.
