Compact Bluetooth speaker for outdoor use

The Sony SRS-XB100 is a portable wireless speaker built around a single 5 cm driver with a passive radiator. It weighs very little and includes a multi-position strap so it can hang from a backpack, shower rail or tent pole. An IP67 rating means full dust protection and survival in 1 metre of water, while a UV-resistant coating guards the plastic cabinet against sun damage. Battery life reaches 16 hours on a charge.

Step up from phone audio for travel

This model replaces a smartphone’s built-in speaker when you need louder, bass-rich playback at the beach, pool or campsite. The jump is worth it if you regularly listen in open air or humid spaces where a phone would be too quiet or risk water damage. It is not for buyers who want room-filling stereo separation or multi-room synchronisation.

Simple pairing with one recurring limitation

Pairing is a single Bluetooth step; the USB-C port charges the internal cell and the strap clips on without tools. The companion app adds a battery indicator and EQ presets. The only common friction point is that stereo pairing requires a second identical unit, so a single speaker stays in mono.

Questions about this item

Will the 8.6 cm cube fit in a standard cup holder?

At 8.6 cm wide and 11 cm tall the speaker is narrower than most car cup holders but taller than many, so measure your holder depth before relying on it.

What is the first pairing step people skip?

Hold the power button until the indicator flashes, then select SRS-XB100 in your device Bluetooth list — skipping the long press leaves the speaker invisible.

How do I know when the 16 hour battery needs recharging?

The built-in battery status indicator shows the remaining level; when it signals low, connect the included USB Type-C cable to a 5 V source.
