Sony WH-1000XM3 Wireless Headphones

The Sony WH-1000XM3/B is a wireless over-ear headphone with industry-leading noise cancellation and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. It features a 40mm driver unit and aluminium-coated diaphragm with neodymium magnet for high-resolution audio. The QN1 HD noise-cancelling processor and Sense Engine automatically adapt to your environment. Up to 30 hours of playback are available with a 3-hour recharge time.

Who Benefits and Who Should Look Elsewhere

Commuters and frequent flyers who want effective noise cancellation and long battery life will appreciate the 30-hour playback and included airline adaptor. Buyers who need multipoint Bluetooth pairing or prefer a lighter on-ear design should consider other models. The Quick Attention feature lets you hear surroundings instantly by covering the right earcup.

Deciding Specification: Noise Cancellation Processor

The QN1 HD noise-cancelling processor is the defining component that separates this model from standard wireless headphones. It works with the Sense Engine to analyse ambient sound and adjust cancellation in real time. If active noise cancellation is not a priority, a simpler wireless headphone without this processor may suit you better.

Questions about this item

Will the headband and 40 mm drivers fit a standard adult head without extra adjustment?

The over-ear circumaural design with 40 mm drivers is built to cover average adult ears; the headband slides to accommodate most head sizes.

How do I pair the headphones with a phone using Bluetooth 4.2, and what step do people often miss?

Enable Bluetooth 4.2 on the phone, hold the power button until the indicator flashes blue and red, then select WH-1000XM3; the step often missed is tapping the NFC zone on the left earcup for instant pairing.

What part will need replacement after several years of daily charging cycles?

The internal rechargeable battery delivers up to 30 hours of playback per charge and will eventually lose capacity after many cycles.
