Large-screen 4K TV for home cinema

The Sony XR85X90L is an 85-inch 4K BRAVIA XR Full Array LED television released in 2023. It targets viewers who want a large display with high peak brightness and wide dynamic contrast for movies and streaming. The Cognitive Processor XR and XR Triluminos Pro drive colour accuracy and local dimming performance. Buyers needing a smaller footprint or a different panel technology will not be served by this model.

Sustained brightness and gaming response

Full Array LED backlighting with local dimming maintains high peak brightness across extended HDR scenes without the rapid dimming seen in edge-lit designs. The 120Hz panel supports 4K/120Hz signals, VRR and ALLM for responsive gameplay. XR 4K Upscaling and XR HDR Remaster work continuously on lower-resolution sources. The 32GB internal storage holds apps and cached content for long sessions.

Acoustic output and connectivity

Two side-firing speakers deliver 30W total power with Dolby Atmos, DTS Digital Surround and 360 Spatial Sound readiness. Acoustic Multi-Audio and room calibration adapt output to the listening position. Four HDMI 2.3 inputs include eARC, while Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, optical and analogue audio ports cover peripheral connections. A 400x400 VESA pattern allows wall mounting.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power does the 85" Full Array LED panel draw when it runs all day?

The Cognitive Processor XR manages the Full Array LED backlight with local dimming to keep brightness and contrast high while the set runs continuously, and the 30 W speaker output shows the overall power profile stays modest for an 85" screen.

Which cables or devices must I already own to use the four HDMI inputs and the eARC port?

You need HDMI 2.1-rated cables for 4K 120 Hz gaming, an eARC-capable soundbar or AV receiver for lossless audio, and any streaming sticks or consoles you want to plug into the four HDMI ports.

Will my older 1080p Blu-ray player and game console work properly on the 120 Hz panel with XR 4K Upscaling?

Yes — the Cognitive Processor XR up-scales 1080p sources to 4K, the 120 Hz refresh rate handles 24p cinema and 60 Hz legacy content smoothly, and the HDMI inputs support HDCP 2.3 for protected playback.
