SQUARE D AL400LA Mechanical Lug

The SQUARE D AL400LA is a tin-plated aluminum mechanical lug rated for a single conductor up to 600 kcmil. It accepts stranded copper wire from 1 AWG to 250 kcmil and aluminum conductors within the same range. The connector mounts on a 1/4 inch stud with a hex socket head and operates at up to 600 volts. It suits panel builders and electricians terminating large feeder cables in industrial or commercial equipment.

Upgrade from smaller lugs

This lug replaces lower-ampacity connectors when a single 250 kcmil copper or aluminum conductor must be terminated at 600 volts. The jump is justified when the existing lug cannot accommodate the required wire size or the 221 degrees F temperature rating. It is not for applications needing multi-conductor termination, higher voltage classes, or conductors larger than 250 kcmil copper.

Capacity and headroom

The lug handles one conductor at the maximum 250 kcmil copper size with a 600-volt rating and 221 degrees F operating limit. The single-hole mounting on 0.34 inch diameter with 0.88 inch spacing fits standard 1/4 inch stud patterns. It runs out when the design calls for more than one conductor per phase, voltages above 600 V, or wire sizes exceeding the 250 kcmil copper maximum.
