This StarTech kit extends a 10/100 Ethernet link up to 0.5mi (800m) over a single twisted pair or standard UTP cable. It is built for installers and IT teams who need to reach remote cameras, access points, sensors or VoIP endpoints far beyond the normal cable run limit.

Distance and Speed Trade-Offs

The standard 100m (328ft) Ethernet limit is replaced by two operating modes: a single pair delivers 100Mbps up to 300m (984ft), while two pairs drop the rate to 10Mbps but reach the full 800m (2624ft). Bandwidth and distance are therefore mutually constrained by the cabling choice.

Capacity and Protocol Headroom

The transparent bridge passes IEEE 802.1q VLAN tags, Wake-on-LAN, 16K jumbo frames and PXE boot traffic without modification. It handles typical surveillance, automation and voice loads comfortably, but the 10/100Mbps ceiling means it cannot serve gigabit uplinks or high-throughput storage traffic.
