STARTECH 122-USBC-HDMI-4K-VGA docking station
A USB-C adapter driving one 4K 60 Hz HDMI or 1920×1200 VGA display with 100 W power pass-through and 3.5 mm audio
- 4K 60 Hz HDR video via HDMI 2.0b with 7.1-channel audio
- VGA output up to 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz for legacy displays
- 100 W USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 pass-through keeps laptops charged
- 30 cm attached cable reduces strain on device ports
- Works with Thunderbolt 3 and 4 hosts across Windows, macOS and Linux
Single-monitor USB-C adapter
The StarTech 122-USBC-HDMI-4K-VGA connects a USB-C host with DP Alt-mode to one external display using HDMI 2.0b or VGA. It also passes up to 100W of Power Delivery 3.0 for laptop charging and provides a 3.5mm audio jack. The 30cm attached cable reduces strain on the host port during use.
Upgrade from basic video dongles
This adapter replaces simple HDMI-only or VGA-only dongles by offering both outputs simultaneously in mirrored mode at 1080p. The jump is worth it when you need flexible connectivity to mixed display types and full 100W charging pass-through without carrying a separate power brick.
Limits of the DP Alt-mode interface
HDMI output reaches 4K at 60Hz with HDR and 7.1-channel audio, while VGA output tops out at 1920x1200 at 60Hz. Simultaneous use mirrors both ports at 1080p. The host must support DP Alt-mode over USB-C; systems without that capability cannot drive video through this adapter.

Questions about this item
How much clearance does the 30 cm attached cable need behind the USB-C port?
The 30 cm cable extends straight back from the USB-C port, so allow at least that length of free space behind the device for a strain-free connection.
What host mode must be enabled for the HDMI 2.0b or VGA output to work?
The host USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode; the adapter will not transmit video on ports that only carry data or charging.
Does the 3.5 mm audio jack carry sound when video runs over VGA instead of HDMI?
Yes, the 3.5 mm jack delivers stereo audio regardless of whether the active video path is HDMI 2.0b or VGA.
