Dual 4K 60Hz Display Support

The StarTech 189B-USBC-MULTIPORT is a USB-C mini dock that drives two DisplayPort monitors at 4K 60Hz on Windows, Linux and ChromeOS. It suits mobile professionals and hot-desk users who need instant dual-screen productivity from a single laptop port.

Host Port and Power Requirements

Your laptop must provide a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery input to use the dock’s video and charging functions. Thunderbolt 3 is not required, but the host port must negotiate 100W PD pass-through if you want to charge the laptop while the dock is connected.

Thermals Noise and Power Draw

The compact 1.0" x 4.6" x 5.3" enclosure uses passive cooling, so it adds no fan noise to the workspace. Housing material includes 85% post-consumer recycled plastic. Under normal multi-monitor and peripheral loads the dock draws power from the host PD connection without generating noticeable heat.

Questions about this item

What cables or power adapters must I buy separately to run two 4K 60Hz displays and charge my laptop?

The dock needs a USB-C host cable and a USB-C power adapter up to 100W; DisplayPort cables for the monitors are not included.

Should I choose a Thunderbolt 3 dock instead of this USB-C model for dual 4K 60Hz output?

This model does not support Thunderbolt 3; it delivers dual 4K 60Hz over standard USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode on Windows, Linux and ChromeOS.

Does the 100W PD pass-through reserve any power for the hub itself, or can the full 100W reach the laptop?

The hub draws its own operating power from the PD input, so the laptop receives slightly less than the full 100W supplied by the charger.
