Four-port USB 3.0 hub for extra ports
The StarTech hub adds four USB-A connections through a single host port using the VL817S chipset. Bus power draws current from the host so no external adapter is required. The TPE cable jacket resists wear during frequent packing. UASP support lets attached storage operate with lower protocol overhead.
Suits owners who need more USB-A sockets
Travellers and hot-desk workers gain extra ports without carrying a power brick. The 24000 hour MTBF indicates a design built for repeated connect and disconnect cycles. Users who must charge power-hungry devices from the hub should look elsewhere because no fast-charge ports are present. Builds that require a USB-C device port or USB-C host link will not be compatible.
5Gbps bus-powered VL817S chipset
The hub runs at 5Gbps over USB 3.0 using the VIA VL817S controller. Overcurrent protection guards the host port against faults on downstream devices. No external power input exists so the total current budget stays within what the host port can supply. UASP is enabled for supported mass-storage peripherals.

Questions about this item
How much heat or noise does the VL817S chipset produce when the hub runs all day?
The hub has no moving parts and draws power from the host port, so it generates minimal heat and no audible noise during continuous operation.
What host port must my computer already have for this hub to work?
Your computer needs an available USB-A port to connect the hub's built-in cable.
Will my older USB 2.0 flash drives and keyboards work at full speed when plugged into this hub?
They will work, but each device runs at its own USB 2.0 speed; the hub's 5Gbps capability only applies to USB 3.0 devices.
