Versatile Video Adapter

The StarTech CDP2HDVGA is a USB-C to HDMI and VGA adapter that adds two video outputs to laptops and tablets with a single USB-C port. It suits professionals who present on mixed displays, educators moving between projector types, and travellers needing one compact dongle for hotel TVs and office monitors.

Thermals and Power

The active adapter draws power from the host USB-C port and runs without an external supply. Its aluminum housing dissipates heat during extended sessions, keeping the unit comfortable to handle. No fan is present, so operation stays silent in quiet meeting rooms.

Resolution Limits

HDMI delivers up to 4K at 30 Hz while VGA reaches 1080p at 60 Hz. When both outputs are used simultaneously they mirror at 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz. Buyers needing independent extended desktops or higher refresh rates should choose a different solution.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the CDP2HDVGA to my laptop and what is the common mistake?

Plug the built-in 15.24 cm USB-C cable into your laptop's USB-C port, then attach a monitor to the HDMI or VGA female output. The common mistake is assuming the HDMI port is active; it is passive and relies on the host's DP alt mode.

What part of this adapter is most likely to need replacement first?

The fixed 6 inch USB-C cable endures repeated bending at the laptop port, so the cable strain relief or connector pins typically wear out before the aluminum adapter body.

What resolution limit appears first when I drive both outputs continuously?

With both HDMI and VGA connected the adapter duplicates the signal at a maximum of 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz, capping the 4K 30 Hz capability of the HDMI-only path.
