Connects a PS/2-compliant USB keyboard to a legacy PS/2 port using a DIN 6 male connector
The StarTech GC46FMKEY adapter lets you connect a USB keyboard that supports both USB and PS/2 signalling to a legacy PS/2 port on a desktop or server. It is intended for users who need to keep using a compatible keyboard with older hardware that lacks USB ports.
This passive adapter does not perform active protocol translation, so it works exclusively with keyboards that already implement dual-mode USB and PS/2 operation. Keyboards that are USB-only will not function, and the adapter cannot add PS/2 support to a purely USB device.
Installation requires inserting the USB-A female end into the keyboard cable and the DIN 6 male end into the computer PS/2 port with the system powered off. The most common issue is attempting to use the adapter with a USB-only keyboard, which results in no input being detected.

It accepts the USB connector from a dual-protocol keyboard and passes the PS/2 signals to the DIN-6 male plug
The PS/2 interface caps the signalling to the legacy keyboard protocol used by the DIN-6 male connector
