Cisco GLC-SX-MMD Compatible SFP Module

This StarTech.com SFP transceiver delivers 1 Gbps Gigabit Ethernet over multi-mode fibre using an 850 nm wavelength. It follows the IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-SX standard and fits any MSA-compliant SFP cage with an LC duplex connector. The module is TAA compliant and designed as a direct replacement for the Cisco GLC-SX-MMD part. It suits network administrators upgrading or expanding fibre links in enterprise or campus environments.

Verify Switch Compatibility and Fibre Type

Confirm that your switch or router accepts uncoded, MSA-compliant SFP modules before ordering. The transceiver requires multi-mode fibre (MMF) with LC duplex connectors and supports link distances up to 500 m (1640 ft) or 550 m (1804 ft) depending on fibre grade. Ensure the host equipment operates within the 0 °C to 70 °C (32 °F to 158 °F) range and 5–95 % RH humidity limits. Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) support allows status reporting via SNMP tools.

Hot-Swappable Fibre Uplink for Mixed Vendor Networks

The hot-swappable SFP installs without powering down the host switch, freeing a copper port for a fibre uplink. It works with Cisco platforms such as Firepower, ASR920, IE2000, IE4000 and ASR1000 as well as MSA-compliant switches from Ubiquiti, D-Link, Netgear, Supermicro and TP-Link. Using this module preserves OEM warranty coverage on the host equipment while adding a multi-mode fibre connection.
