This StarTech.com J4858CST module delivers a 1 Gbps Gigabit Ethernet link over multi-mode fiber at 850 nm. It fits HPE switches such as the 1400, 1700, 1820, 2520 and 2530 series and is also accepted by MSA-compliant hardware from brands including Ubiquiti, D-Link and Netgear. Digital Diagnostics Monitoring reports transceiver status to SNMP management tools.

Replaces a missing or failed HPE J4858C module

The transceiver upgrades any compatible switch port to a 550 m multi-mode fiber uplink without replacing the switch itself. The jump is worth it when you need to extend a Gigabit connection beyond copper limits or when an existing SFP slot is vacant and a fiber run is already in place. Hot-swap support means the change can be made without downtime.

Check for an LC duplex port and multi-mode fiber

Verify that the target switch has an open SFP cage accepting uncoded modules and that your cabling is LC duplex multi-mode rated for 850 nm. Confirm the link distance does not exceed 550 m (1804 ft) and that the switch firmware supports Digital Diagnostics Monitoring if you plan to use SNMP alerts. The package contains only the transceiver.
