STARTECH MPO Loopback Plug Single Mode

The STARTECH MPO loopback plug is a single-mode fibre optic adapter designed for network technicians and installers who need to verify MPO-12 connections. It provides a quick way to test link continuity and transceiver performance without a second device. The 12-fibre male connector loops all fibres back to the source for immediate diagnostic feedback.

Practical limits of single-mode 9/125 loopback

Single-mode 9/125 fibre supports long-distance transmission, but the loopback plug itself introduces insertion loss that must be accounted for in link budgets. The MPO-12 interface aligns 12 fibres in a single row, so proper key orientation is essential to avoid cross-talk. Testing is limited to the physical layer and does not validate higher-level protocol logic or end-to-end application performance.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 12-fibre MPO-12 loopback or a different fibre count for my single-mode link?

This plug has exactly 12 fibres in an MPO-12 male connector, so select it only when your patch panel or transceiver also uses a 12-fibre MPO interface.

What does the 9/125 micron specification mean once the loopback is installed in my single-mode system?

The 9 µm core and 125 µm cladding match standard OS2 single-mode fibre, ensuring the loopback reflects the test signal with the same modal characteristics as your live cable plant.
