Adds a single SFP Gigabit Ethernet port to a desktop or server via a PCI Express 2.1 x1 slot using an Intel I210-IS controller
Ports PCI Express 2.1 x1, 1 Port
This StarTech.com PCIe 2.1 x1 adapter adds one gigabit Ethernet link through an SFP cage. The Intel I210-IS controller handles 1000 Mbps traffic over copper or fibre media. It fits desktop or server backplanes and supports Windows and Linux drivers. The card draws power from the slot and occupies a low-profile bracket.
Installers who need one removable transceiver for a fibre run or a copper SFP module will find the slot convenient. The x1 edge connector works in any PCIe 2.0 or newer slot without blocking larger cards. Builders who require more than one network port cannot use this adapter.
The card connects through a single-lane PCI Express 2.1 interface, limiting theoretical throughput to the lane’s 500 MB/s ceiling. This bus width is the deciding factor when matching the card to an available expansion slot. No other onboard interface is present.

Other versions of this model
The SFP cage accepts standard mini-GBIC modules; cleaning the optical faces when swapping modules is the only routine upkeep the port itself requires.
The PCI Express 2.1 x1 host link caps sustained payload at roughly 500 MB/s, so the bus ceiling is reached before the 1000 Mbps Ethernet line saturates.
The controller runs passively with no fan; its typical thermal design power is low enough that the bare PCB stays cool inside a normal chassis airflow.
