Cisco-compatible 10GBASE-T transceiver

This StarTech SFP+ module provides a 10 Gbps copper link over Cat6 or Cat5e cable up to 30 metres. It is built for IT professionals who need a hot-swappable 10GBASE-T connection in Cisco switches such as Firepower, ASR1000, ASR9000, C9300 and C3850 series. The transceiver also works with MSA-compliant switches from Ubiquiti, D-Link, Netgear, Supermicro, TP-Link and others that accept uncoded modules. It replaces fibre-based SFP+ optics where RJ-45 cabling is preferred.

Thermals noise and power draw

The module draws a maximum of 2.3 W and operates from 0 to 70 °C with storage tolerance from -40 to 90 °C. No active cooling is integrated; heat dissipation relies on the host switch airflow. Power consumption stays within the SFP+ MSA envelope, so acoustic impact is determined entirely by the host chassis fans. Humidity range is rated at 30 to 70 % RH non-condensing.

Bundled accessories and software

The package contains only the transceiver itself. No cables, mounting hardware or configuration utilities are included. Lifetime warranty coverage applies to the module, not the host switch, and includes free 24/5 multi-lingual technical assistance for the life of the module. Compatibility is validated against OEM specifications and MSA standards, so no additional firmware or licensing steps are required for supported platforms.

Questions about this item

How do I install the SFP10GBTCST module, and what step is often missed?

Insert the hot-swappable transceiver into an SFP+ slot on a compatible switch or router, then connect a Cat6 or Cat5e cable to the RJ-45 port; the step often missed is confirming the host device accepts uncoded MSA modules before powering on.

What maintenance or replacement will the SFP10GBTCST need later?

The module has no user-serviceable parts; replacement is only required if the unit fails, and it is backed by a lifetime warranty covering the module itself for as long as you own it.

What limit appears first on the SFP10GBTCST during sustained 10 Gbps traffic?

The 30 metre reach over copper cabling is the primary limit; the module draws up to 2.3 W and operates from 0 to 70 °C, so thermal throttling or link loss from cable length will show before power or temperature limits.
