Product purpose

The StarTech ST12MHDLAN4K transmits 4K 30 Hz HDMI signals up to 100 m over Cat 5e or better cabling. It suits digital-signage installers, video-wall operators and AV integrators who need scalable IP-based distribution with a free mobile control app.

Setup checks

Verify your source outputs 3840x2160 at 30 Hz or one of the listed lower resolutions such as 1920x1080 at 60 Hz. Ensure a Gigabit Ethernet path exists between transmitter and receiver and that both units can reach a mains outlet for the supplied 12 V 1.5 A adapters.

Thermals and power

Each aluminium enclosure draws 18 W from its external supply and relies on passive cooling with no internal fans. In normal operation the units run silently and maintain stable link and power LEDs on both transmitter and receiver.

Questions about this item

Does the ST12MHDLAN4K kit include everything needed for a 100 m run or must I buy extra cabling?

The package supplies transmitter, receiver, two universal power adapters, mounting brackets, two CAT5 cables, two RJ11-to-RS232 adapters, two RJ11 cables and a plastic screwdriver — no separate cable purchase is required for the 100 m distance.

Which resolution should I select if my display only handles 1080p at 60 Hz?

The extender scales automatically; choose 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz from the supported list (3840x2160 @ 30 Hz, 2560x1600, 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz, 1280x720) and the unit will deliver that signal without extra setup.

Will the 30 Hz limit at 4K cause visible lag when I use this extender with a MacBook Pro for office work?

At 3840x2160 @ 30 Hz the refresh is half the typical 60 Hz rate, so fast motion may show slight judder, but static desktop tasks, spreadsheets and video playback remain perfectly usable.
