Questions about this item

Will the Realtek RTL8126 chip require any firmware updates or hardware maintenance later?

The RTL8126 controller is a solid-state component with no moving parts and no user-serviceable firmware. Routine maintenance is limited to keeping the PCIe slot and RJ-45 port free of dust.

At what speed does the adapter saturate first under sustained 5G traffic?

The single PCI Express x1 host link caps sustained throughput at the lane's maximum, so the 5 Gbps Ethernet port will hit that ceiling before the controller does.
