Remote PC Operation

The StarTech.com SV565UTPHDU is a USB HDMI KVM console extender that lets you control a computer from up to 100 m away over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable. It delivers uncompressed 1080p and 1920 x 1200 video with HDCP, CEC and Lip Sync pass-through. The unit is OS independent and requires no software or drivers, providing three USB 2.0 ports for keyboard, mouse and other peripherals.

Site Suitability

This extender suits installers who need to place a PC in a secure or climate-controlled room while operating it from a distant workstation. It works for digital signage, industrial control or server management where direct cabling is impractical. Buyers who require 4K resolution, HDR support or USB 3.0 data rates should look at other products.

Distance Limit

The single specification that decides fit is the 100 m (330 ft) maximum extension distance over Cat5e or Cat6. If the cable run between the computer and the console exceeds this length, the extender will not function.

Questions about this item

Which cable type should I choose to reach the full 100m distance?

Use a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable; both support the maximum 100m extension for uncompressed 1080p video and USB 2.0 signals.

What does the 1080p uncompressed claim mean for my display?

You get full 1920 x 1200 or 1080p resolution with no compression artefacts, plus HDCP, CEC and lip-sync pass-through for protected content.

How does the Cat5e / Cat6 link limit the USB 2.0 performance?

The extender carries USB 2.0 over the same Cat5e or Cat6 cable, so keyboard, mouse and other low-speed devices work at standard USB 2.0 rates up to 100m.
