SteelSeries Arctis 5 Gaming Headset

The SteelSeries Arctis 5 is an over-ear gaming headset designed for PC and PlayStation 4 players who want surround sound and clear communication. It features DTS Headphone:X v2.0 surround audio for positional awareness in games. Independent game and chat volume controls let you adjust the mix without leaving your session. RGB illumination adds a customisable visual element to the setup.

Build Quality and Daily Use

The headset uses a steel-reinforced headband for structural durability and padded AirWeave ear cushions for extended comfort. A bidirectional ClearCast microphone provides studio-quality voice clarity with background noise cancellation. The microphone is retractable, keeping it out of the way when not in use. An inline USB ChatMix dial allows instant balancing of game audio and chat volume on the fly.

DTS Headphone:X v2.0 Surround Sound

The defining specification is DTS Headphone:X v2.0 surround sound, which creates a multi-channel audio environment from a stereo headset. This lets you hear directional cues like footsteps or gunfire with greater precision. Buyers who need wireless freedom or console compatibility beyond PlayStation 4 should look elsewhere. The wired USB connection ensures zero-latency audio for competitive play.

Questions about this item

Does the USB connection limit the DTS Headphone:X v2.0 surround to stereo output?

The headset uses a USB link that carries the DTS Headphone:X v2.0 processing, so the virtual 7.1 surround is generated inside the headset and not capped to two channels by the interface.

What clearance does the over-ear design need around the ears and on top of the head?

The padded AirWeave ear cushions fully enclose the ears and the steel-reinforced headband adjusts to fit a wide range of head sizes without pressing on the top of the skull.

How is the ClearCast microphone attached, and what mistake do users make when positioning it?

The bidirectional mic retracts into the left ear cup; buyers often leave it flush with the housing instead of pulling it out and bending the boom so the tip sits a finger-width from the corner of the mouth.
